Renee Cardarelle Voted New President of Minnesota NOW

Renee is a life-long Minnesotan who has lived throughout the state and currently resides in East Grand Forks, MN after 30 years in Annandale, MN. She has 2 daughters, Kate who is a truck driver, and Genna, a psychology technician. Renee has long fought for equality for all people! She currently works as a professor of political science at the University of North Dakota!

Here is an introduction from Renee.

“I have been a feminist since I was 7 and argued with my father that women are just as strong as men! Today I argue for the value of diversity and believe we are stronger as a community, as a nation, when we embrace our different life experiences, identities and cultures. Nature shows us, we are stronger the more diverse we grow!

We live during a time of incredible opportunity and intense struggle. The rights women have fought for are being eroded all around the world, even as in some places women are winning new rights. Women still only make up an average of 21% of the national elected officials worldwide and far less at the local level. It is time for this to change!

Only when our governing bodies reflect the diversity of our world and allow equitable representation for all, not just women who are high income and Western or white, but women from across all socioeconomic and ethnic communities, will we begin to see a world where all people thrive.

As your president I will be dedicating the next two years to strengthening the power of MNNOW as we fight for all women. We must address racial injustices and the hate crimes that plague our communities, including the growing hate directed toward our LGBTQIA+ communities. We must fight against the challenges to women’s health and for the right to control our bodies, and we must fight for women who struggle economically or live with violence. This is what Minnesota NOW is committed to!

I hope you will join us in this fight! A Chinese proverb tells us: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is NOW. Let’s plant some trees!”

Last President’s Message from Immediate Past President Mariquita Anderson

I learned a lot serving as your President for the last two years. I learned that Minnesota NOW activists are passionate people who want the same rights for everyone no matter what their background. While the current status of National or State affairs can look depressing, please know that there a lot of us still in this working, volunteering, and amplifying the messages which support our 6 Core Issues of Constitutional Equality, Economic Justice, Freedom from Violence, LGBTQIA+ Rights, Racial Justice, and Reproductice Rights.

Renee recently appointed me to continue chairing our PAC where, as of today, we’ve already received over 40 completed questionnaires this election cycle. We haven’t seen numbers like this since 2002 and we’ll still be accepting questionnaires for another few months. Everyone – and I mean, everyone – is gearing up to work together to vote for candidates who support our issues and it’s terrific to see.

I hope to see a lot of you during doorknocks, virtual phone campaigns and whatever else it takes to get our candidates into office! See you soon!
