Minnesotans believe in caring for one another. Yet every day, Minnesotans are having to choose between their paycheck and taking care of a new child, an aging loved one, or themselves, because they don’t have access to Paid Family and Medical Leave. Families in Minnesota deserve better. That’s why Minnesota NOW supports Paid Family and Medical Leave.
Minnesotans are currently covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act which provides job security during up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. This option leads to Minnesotans having to choose between economic security and taking care of themselves and their families which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. 59% of Minnesotans do not have access to this leave because they can’t afford to lose their income. This lack of access disproportionately affects women and people of color, leading to economic insecurity and income inequities.
The Build Back Better Plan would guarantee up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave for all workers and and up to 7 days of paid sick, family, and safe leave so Minnesotans can take care of themselves and their families. Join us in our fight for Paid Family and Medical Leave for all by contacting your representatives and urging them to support Paid Family and Medical Leave. Together we can provide security and support to all families in Minnesota.
In the graphic, only the States in blue have funded their family and medical leave laws. Minnesota is in gray which means that we don’t fund it.
