Why the Equal Rights Amendment Should Be Added to the Minnesota Constitution

Join as we hear from:

Yixiu Chen – Manager of Open Door Learning Centers for Literacy Minnesota – she will be discusing how the Equal Rights Amendment could improve immigrant women’s lives.

Heather Allison – President ERAMN – As a nonprofit board chair, Heather Allison is a passionate advocate dedicated to passing an Equal Rights Amendment in Minnesota and at the federal level. The ERA would add a simple statement regarding women’s rights to the Minnesota Constitution: “Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of gender.” Heather will give us background on the development of women’s rights and the ERA and let us know what we need to do to get it passed at the MN and federal levels.

Hollies and Latrice Winston – will discuss how the ERA can help husbands and wives balance work and home responsibilities and can contribute to a better life for their children and aging family members who need their help. Hollies is Chair and CEO at Guaranteed America, Inc. where he advocates on behalf of both private and public businesses and provides trainings and client acquisition services. Latrice organizes couples retreats and events for Couples Connecting Community.

Ruben Vazquez – Vice President, Racial Justice and Public Policy at the Minneapolis YWCA – Ruben Vazquez manages the overall strategy of the Mpls YWCA and promotes its mission of racial justice, gender equality, and human dignity. Rubén represents YWCA Minneapolis on racial justice and public policy related issues both locally and nationally. He will explain how adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution can contribute to building community partnerships and integrate the race and gender equity initiative of partners and members.

If the Minnesota House and Senate votes in favor of adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, the ERA Amendment will appear on your ballot. Please vote in favor of it.
