DESCRIPTION:On behalf of our new MN NOW President\, Mariquita Anderson\, and our new Vice President\, Kathleen Murphy\, and the MN NOW PAC\, we are hosting a fundraiser in recognition of the candidates that uphold the core feminist issues of NOW. \nYou may be aware that August 26th is the ACTUAL 100th Anniversary of the final ratification of the 19th Amendment that allowed women across the nation to finally be able to VOTE. We at MN NOW would like to recognize that date with our endorsed candidates. \nPlease join us either IN PERSON (in an extremely spacious backyard with social distancing and masks enforced) OR virtually if you cannot make it to Saint Paul. \nIf you are in greater Minnesota or unable to attend in person (don’t worry\, we get it)\, we hope you’ll be able to join us on Zoom. \nWe will be encouraging attendees to contribute directly to the candidates as well as to our PAC\, which we will distribute all funds raised that evening evenly to all of our candidates. \nAll are welcome! \nAnd if you’d like to stick around for the national ERA Zoom event at 7pm\, we will be airing that in the backyard too!

Register here: ERA event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nWhy the Equal Rights Amendment Should Be Added to the Minnesota Constitution \nHosted by: Think Again Brooklyns\, ERA Minnesota & LWV Brooklyn Park\, Osseo\, Maple Grove \nJoin as we hear from: \nYixiu Chen – Manager of Open Door Learning Centers for Literacy Minnesota – she will be discusing how the Equal Rights Amendment could improve immigrant women’s lives. \nHeather Allison – President ERAMN – As a nonprofit board chair\, Heather Allison is a passionate advocate dedicated to passing an Equal Rights Amendment in Minnesota and at the federal level. The ERA would add a simple statement regarding women’s rights to the Minnesota Constitution: “Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of gender.” Heather will give us background on the development of women’s rights and the ERA and let us know what we need to do to get it passed at the MN and federal levels. \nHollies and Latrice Winston – will discuss how the ERA can help husbands and wives balance work and home responsibilities and can contribute to a better life for their children and aging family members who need their help. Hollies is Chair and CEO at Guaranteed America\, Inc. where he advocates on behalf of both private and public businesses and provides trainings and client acquisition services. Latrice organizes couples retreats and events for Couples Connecting Community. \nRuben Vazquez – Vice President\, Racial Justice and Public Policy at the Minneapolis YWCA – Ruben Vazquez manages the overall strategy of the Mpls YWCA and promotes its mission of racial justice\, gender equality\, and human dignity. Rubén represents YWCA Minneapolis on racial justice and public policy related issues both locally and nationally. He will explain how adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution can contribute to building community partnerships and integrate the race and gender equity initiative of partners and members. \nIf the Minnesota House and Senate votes in favor of adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution\, the ERA Amendment will appear on your ballot.
