Dear Federal Candidate:

Thank you for your interest in allowing the Minnesota NOW PAC to review your candidacy. Because you are seeking a Federal office, the Minnesota NOW PAC cannot do its regular endorsement process. However, Minnesota NOW can make a recommendation to our National NOW PAC regarding endorsement.  For this reason, Minnesota NOW reviews the candidate questionnaire in order to make such a recommendation to the National NOW PAC, rather than to do our regular rating of the candidate.

In order to be considered for recommendation, please print and complete the PAC Candidate Questionnaire and return it as soon as possible.  You may mail or fax it to us.  If you have other information you believe may be pertinent, please include it as well.  You may check the MN NOW Calendar for the next scheduled PAC meeting.

The Minnesota NOW PAC does not do "in-person" interviews.  We base our decision on your answers to the questionnaire (plus voting record, for incumbents).   While it is a somewhat lengthy questionnaire, NOW is a broad-based, multi-issue feminist organization.  Thus, the questions we ask reflect that multitude of issues.

The National NOW PAC prefers to endorse only one candidate in a race, so our recommendation could be important.  We base our recommendation for endorsement on the following criteria.

  Applicant supports NOW's position on the following six issues:

• reproductive rights;
• CEA (Constitutional Equity Amendment (a/k/a ERA));
• eliminating racism;
• freedom from violence;
• lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender rights; and
• opposition to punitive welfare reform
  -- and applicant has shown leadership on feminist issues.
